The project is designed to increase service frequency and passenger capacity through the deployment of a new CBTC (communication-based train control) system, combined with a mid-life overhaul of the existing rolling stock.

The new automated train control system will allow for shorter headways and greater precision, increasing the number of trains in service, reducing wait times, and meeting growing passenger demand.

In addition to the installation of the new signaling system, the m2 fleet will undergo a major mid-life modernization at Alstom's Villeneuve site in Switzerland, thereby extending the operational life of the metro trainsets.

Alstom added that the agreement also includes technical support and obsolescence management services, ensuring the reliable operation of the m2 line throughout the transition period and beyond.
