US: jobless claims top expectations
The US Labor Department said it recorded 209,000 new weekly jobless claims in the week ended August 8, up 9,000 from the prior week's level, which was revised up to 200,000 from 199,000. By comparison, the consensus forecast called for 202,000 new claims.
