Shares of technology companies rose sharply amid resurgent risk appetite.
Chip stocks with exposure to artificial-intelligence infrastructure were particularly strong. Advanced Micro Devices rose 9% and Nvidia added almost 2% after analysts at research firm Melius said the total addressable market for AI data centers might be much bigger than investors realize.
Tensions between OpenAI and Microsoft over the future of their famed AI partnership are flaring up, with executives at the artificial-intelligence startup frustrated by negotiations about gaining backing from its corporate affiliate for a transformation into a for-profit company. OpenAI is reportedly considering a "nuclear option," potentially accusing Microsoft of anticompetitive behavior during their partnership.
