(Alliance News) - Following the precedent set by the Gaza reconstruction plan, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is leveraging Italy's major state-backed entities to support Qatar in the restoration of Ras Lannuf. The strategic liquefied natural gas export hub was damaged during Iranian attacks on March 19.
As reported by Milano Finanza on Tuesday, Palazzo Chigi has proposed the involvement of Eni, Snam, Terna, and Saipem. The move serves a dual purpose: securing long-term contracts for Italian firms and facilitating the restoration of LNG supplies from Doha, which previously accounted for approximately one-third of Italy's imports.
Eni, an existing partner of QatarEnergy and a participant in the North Field East project, could provide engineering and industrial expertise. Meanwhile, Saipem, which has maintained a presence in Qatar's major energy projects since 2020, is a leading candidate to manage the plant reconstruction operations.
